About Me Sue O'Sullivan

Sue O'Sullivan at Westonbirt Arboretum
Abstract meets landscape painting of Ladye Bay

I was born and grew up in London and now live in Wiltshire.

My art is inspired by my passion for nature and I love creating colourful unique abstracts. My abstracts bring walls to life and I hope that they evoke emotion. Its very important to me that I create work that makes people "feel" something.

I love this quote from Kandinsky

"Colour is a power which directly influences the soul. Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammer, the soul is the strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul." from Tate.org.uk

I also experiment with various methodologies for creating landscapes usually born from my love of old trees and wild seas. Some of these may be realistic others are more abstracted.

My favourite medium is acrylic although I occasionally use watercolour, but whichever I'm working with I love to experiment with texture and use a variety of tools to apply paint to create different effects.

In 2021 I won the Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday Award (SBS), this was so exciting as I became a member of one of the leading small business networks in the UK.

During the summer of 2022 I exhibited my work at the Chippenham Art Trail which was a great event attended by many people.

Recently I have been interviewed by James at BBC Radio Wiltshire as part of Wiltshire Meets. This was a great experience and I was able to chat about my passion for art and what inspires me. I was amazed when James commented that a couple of my landscape meets abstract paintings reminded him of a place he used to visit as a child, Ladye Bay. You can see one of these on the left.

Monet, regarded as the founder of impressionism, and Turner known as the "the painter of light" with his turbulent expressive works inspired my early interest in art and a love of impressionism has influenced my work which is constantly evolving.

A passion for travel has taken me to some beautiful places which have been an inspiration for many of my paintings.
