About Me Sue O'Sullivan
I’m Sue O’Sullivan, a contemporary artist based in Wiltshire, creating vibrant original acrylic and watercolour paintings inspired by nature, landscapes and the ever-changing beauty of the natural world. Originally from London, I now work from my studio in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside.
My paintings range from expressive abstract art to contemporary landscape paintings, often bringing together recognisable places with a more intuitive and abstract approach. I’m particularly drawn to colour, light, movement, texture and the atmosphere of a place. My aim is not simply to reproduce a landscape, but to capture the feeling and emotion it evokes.
I love experimenting with colour, texture and mixed painting techniques, building layers of acrylic paint and using palette knives, brushes and other tools to create depth, movement and unique surface textures. My watercolour work offers a different way of exploring light, atmosphere and the beauty of nature.
Nature is at the heart of my work. I find inspiration in the sea, landscapes, countryside, rivers, gardens, flowers and the changing seasons, as well as in my own photographs, memories and experiences.
My Ocean Moments mini series, for example, explores my love of the sea through small original ocean paintings inspired by waves, movement, colour and the sense of calm I experience when by the water.
I believe strongly that art should make you feel something. This is one of the reasons I’m so drawn to colour and its emotional power, echoing Wassily Kandinsky’s well-known ideas about the relationship between colour and the soul. I want my paintings to bring colour and energy into a home while also creating an emotional connection with the person who lives with them.
In 2021, I was honoured to receive the Theo Paphitis Small Business Sunday (SBS) Award, recognising my creative business and joining a network of UK small businesses.
My artwork has been exhibited at Chippenham Art Trail, Gallery Grounds in Southampton and other exhibitions and open calls. My work has also been featured on BBC Radio Wiltshire, where my landscape-abstract paintings were discussed for their ability to capture the essence and memories of particular places.

Inspired early on by Claude Monet, one of the founders of Impressionism, and J. M. W. Turner, known for his expressive use of light, I developed a fascination with colour, movement and atmosphere. The influence of Impressionism continues to find its way into my work, although my style is constantly evolving as I experiment with colour, texture and different painting techniques.
Travel has also played an important part in my artistic journey. From coastal landscapes to beautiful countryside and gardens, I’m inspired by the places I visit and the memories they create. My paintings often begin with a photograph, a remembered moment or simply a feeling, which I then develop through colour, texture and imagination.
